Soft Close Drawer Won T Stay Closed

  1. I have soft closing drawers in my kitchen. A drawer started making a sort of ping or click when I open it and I noticed it wasn't closing all the way by itself anymore.  I figured out how to take the drawer out.  I found the gas pistons at the rear of the gliders and discovered that the left piston is working properly but the right one is not. It is not relatching at the top when you open the drawer.  Ie, you close the drawer and the piston draws back and then when you open the drawer there is a little catch that attaches to the piston and draws it back forward to reset it in place, but right before it recatches, it springs back.  This is obviously the ping I've been hearing.  I've tried several times moving the slider very slowly to see if I can get it to recatch, but it fails the same way each time.  Does anyone know how to fix or adjust these?  I attached a couple of pictures so that you can see what the piston looks like.  Not sure if they're very helpful.  It was difficult to get any lighting.  I am not particularly handy so if it needs replacing, I will just have to call someone.  Thanks for any suggestions!  Val

  2. I can't tell anything from your description or photo's but have a look on Woodfit's website.
  3. You should be able to look at the working catch, and figure out what needs doing to the non-working catch to fix it. You can do it, trust me.

  4. I have looked at the working catch and compared them, which is why I'm stumped.  I don't see any difference that should be causing the right catch not to work.  I've tried adjusting the rails a little thinking they might have not been sufficiently parallel, I've figgled with the lever that is supposed to move the drawer face up and down wondering if that changed the angle at which the drawer glides.  I've hooked and rehooked the catch manually hundreds of times now, but nothing seems to make it stay.  I don't get it.  I will check out the webside chippie mentions above for any other clues.  Thanks for the help!  I am going to keep trying.
  5. Vjhahn,

What make of drawer runner is it? Are there any names written on it anywhere?

  6. It is hard to tell, but I don't think so.  I took the drawer off again and found DTC 533 on the rail.  A google search turned up: http://dtc.gmc.globalmarket.com/products/details/dtc-full-extension-under-mount-slide-376391.html  I didn't really find any trouble shooting information on that site however.  maybe I should just buy a new one?  Thanks, Val
